And the young man

leaned

to support one's self -- lean, lie, rely, rest (on, self), stay.
upon his spear
chaniyth  (khan-eeth')
a lance (for thrusting, like pitching a tent) -- javelin, spear.
and lo the chariots
rekeb  (reh'-keb)

and horsemen
ba`al  (bah'-al)

a steed; also (by implication) a driver (in a chariot), i.e. (collectively) cavalry -- horseman.
followed hard

to impinge, i.e. cling or adhere; figuratively, to catch by pursuit
after him
