The heart knoweth his own bitterness and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy

doth not intermeddle

to braid, i.e. intermix; technically, to traffic (as if by barter); also or give to be security (as a kind of exchange)
with his joy
simchah  (sim-khaw')
blithesomeness or glee, (religious or festival) -- exceeding(-ly), gladness, joy(-fulness), mirth, pleasure, rejoice(-ing).
