
Thus saith the LORD For three transgressions of Edom and for four I will not turn away the punishment thereof because he did pursue his brother with the sword and did cast off all pity and his anger did tear perpetually and he kept his wrath for ever Thus saith 'amar (aw-mar') to say (used with great latitude) the LORD Yhovah (yeh-ho-vaw') (the) self-Existent or Eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God -- Jehovah, the Lord. I will not turn away shuwb (shoob) to turn back (hence, away) transitively or intransitively, literally or figuratively the punishment thereof because he did pursue radaph (raw-daf') to run after (usually with hostile intent; figuratively (of time) gone by) -- chase, put to flight, follow (after, on), hunt, (be under) persecute(-ion, -or), pursue(-r). his brother 'ach (awkh) a brother (used in the widest sense of literal relationship and metaphorical affinity or resemblance (like 1) -- another, brother(-ly); kindred, like, other. with the sword chereb (kheh'-reb) drought; also a cutting instrument (from its destructive effect), as a knife, sword, or other sharp implement -- axe, dagger, knife, mattock, sword, tool. and did cast off shachath (shaw-khath') to decay, i.e. (causatively) ruin -- batter, cast off, corrupt(-er, thing), destroy(-er, -uction), lose, mar, perish, spill, spoiler, utterly, waste(-r). all pity racham (rakh'-am) compassion (in the plural); by extension, the womb (as cherishing the fetus); by implication, a maiden and his anger 'aph (af) the nose or nostril; hence, the face, and occasionally a person; also (from the rapid breathing in passion) ire did tear taraph (taw-raf') to pluck off or pull to pieces; causatively to supply with food (as in morsels) -- catch, without doubt, feed, ravin, rend in pieces, surely, tear (in pieces). perpetually `ad (ad) a (peremptory) terminus, i.e. (by implication) duration, in the sense of advance or perpetuity (substantially as a noun, either with or without a preposition) and he kept shamar (shaw-mar') to hedge about (as with thorns), i.e. guard; generally, to protect, attend to, etc. his wrath `ebrah (eb-raw') an outburst of passion -- anger, rage, wrath. for ever netsach (neh'-tsakh) a goal, i.e. the bright object at a distance travelled towards; hence (figuratively), splendor, or (subjectively) truthfulness, or (objectively) confidence; but usually (adverbially), continually (i.e. to the most distant point of view)
