a place of refuge; abstract, safety, both the fact (security) and the feeling (trust); often (adverb with or without preposition) safely
so that they feared
pachad  (paw-kkad')
to be startled (by a sudden alarm); hence, to fear in general -- be afraid, stand in awe, (be in) fear, make to shake.
not but the sea
yam  (yawm)
from an unused root meaning to roar -- sea (-faring man, (-shore), south, west (-ern, side, -ward).
overwhelmed
kacah  (kaw-saw')
to plump, i.e. fill up hollows; by implication, to cover (for clothing or secrecy) -- clad self, close, clothe, conceal, cover (self), (flee to) hide, overwhelm.
