The mandrakes give a smell and at our gates are all manner of pleasant fruits new and old which I have laid up for thee O my beloved The mandrakes duwday (doo-dah'-ee) a boiler or basket; also the mandrake (as an aphrodisiac) -- basket, mandrake. give nathan (naw-than') to give, used with greatest latitude of application (put, make, etc.) a smell reyach (ray'-akh) odor (as if blown) -- savour, scent, smell. and at our gates pethach (peh'-thakh) an opening (literally), i.e. door (gate) or entrance way -- door, entering (in), entrance (-ry), gate, opening, place. are all manner of pleasant meged (meh'-ghed) a distinguished thing; hence something valuable, as a product or fruit -- pleasant, precious fruit (thing). fruits new chadash (khaw-dawsh') new -- fresh, new thing. and old yashan (yaw-shawn') old -- old. which I have laid up tsaphan (tsaw-fan') to hide (by covering over); by implication, to hoard or reserve; figuratively to deny; specifically (favorably) to protect, (unfavorably) to lurk for thee O my beloved dowd (dode) from an unused root meaning properly, to boil, i.e. (figuratively) to love; by implication, a love-token, lover, friend; specifically an uncle
